About this pop-up
The Sungnyemun Gate Guard Ceremony reenacts a Joseon-era military ritual for guarding the capital’s gates, including gate opening and closing, patrol, and guard-changing procedures. The program begins with the guards assembling and signal horns sounding, followed by the opening ceremony, sentry duties, guard changes, and the closing ceremony. It is held free of charge at Sungnyemun Square from 10:00 to 15:40 every day except Monday, when the event is closed.
